Comparands
The three sources selected for comparason with The Fireside Stories of Ireland (FSI) are all books by Kennedy and written before FSI. The Legends of Mount Leinster is the earliest text of the three and is actually written under the pseudonym of Harry Whitney, which can be seen on the title page in the attached image. This is also the only title page featuring a printed image. The Banks of the Duffrey is another later text and it features a preface similar to that in The Banks of the Boro that refers to The Legends of Mount Leinster and the pseudonym underwhich it was written. The Banks of the Boro, in the paratext at the back of the book, has a promotion section for one of the earlier texts written by Kennedy. This is a method that we see used in FSI as well. It is also important to note that each of the books written under his name (Patrick Kennedy), not under the pseudonym Harry Whitney, are all published under McGlashan and Gill of Dublin. These books display similar simplicity in title pages, which reference other books by the author, a preface from the author himself, and more often promotions of other books in the end paratext. This seems to create a blueprint of Kennedy publications by this publisher. It also shows substantial author influence, as each one has a preface from the author where he talks about the text, his other works, and folklore in general.
